Signs That Show Your Dryer Vent Is Clogged

What could be the reason your dryer does not fully dry your clothes? It could indicate a clogged vent. When dryer vents become blocked or restricted, they affect the dryer’s performance. Hot air flowing out of the dryer through the vent could be an indication.

Signs That Show Your Dryer Vent is Blocked

What are some signs your dryer vent is clogged? The most common sign of a clogged dryer vent is that your laundry and clothes take longer to dry. Vacuuming the vent should solve the problem. The dryer will not be able to operate if it is completely blocked.

  • Excess Dry Times: When your clothes are not fully drying during a regular dry cycle, it is a sign that your dryer vent is clogged. Each load should take no more than 30-40 minutes to dry. A blocked dryer vent traps air and keeps your clothes moist and hot. Your clothes will take longer to dry if your dryer vent is clogged. When you remove your clothes from the dryer after a cycle, and they still feel damp, it’s time to clean the dryer vent.
  • Burning Smell: Have you ever noticed a burnt odour from your dryer when it’s running? The smell is coming from your dryer. If your dryer vent is clogged, it has to work extra hard to dry your clothes, which means it overworks itself and produces a burnt smell.
  • Hot Exterior: The purpose of a dryer is to exhaust heat and moisture while drying. Heat and moisture cannot escape a dryer if there is no place it can escape, so the dryer continues to work but cannot keep up with the drying process. Heat builds up without any place for it to go, causing your dryer to overheat and eventually catch fire.
  • Sizable Lint: Clean out your lint filter or tray before starting a new cycle, but if you notice an excessive amount of lint each time, chances are you have a clogged dryer vent. There may even be lint accumulating outside your lint filter and around your dryer and laundry room.
  • Lint Builds Up: You should clean lint trays in dryers after each use. Experts advise that lint can also accumulate behind and under the washer and dryer. A lint behind the dryer may indicate a clogged vent system, which can be damaging. Since the vent has nowhere to move the lint, it accumulates there.
  • Pet Hair Is Everywhere: If you own a pet, you might not think twice about a little fur on your jeans or sweatshirt. When you put on those clothes for washing, all that hair accumulates. To prevent it, you should monitor the buildup of pet hair in dryer vents throughout the year.

You might want to check on your dryer system more frequently if your pet has a particularly rough shedding period. There’s a good chance it needs cleaning even more than your rug.
