Laundromats

Multi-dryer banks and shared ducts cleaned on a schedule that keeps machines earning instead of sitting idle.

A laundromat is the only facility type where restricted venting has a directly calculable cost, because revenue is a function of machine-hours. Every dryer is a metered device with a finite number of billable cycles a day. When a machine takes two cycles to do one cycle's work, you have not just annoyed a customer — you have removed a paying slot from the floor for the rest of the day, and you have done it on every machine on that duct run simultaneously.

The economics of a longer dry time

Vended dryers sell time, not dryness. So when airflow degrades the customer either feeds the machine again, which reads as a store that overcharges, or leaves with damp laundry, which reads as bad equipment. Neither outcome brings them back, and in a business built on neighborhood repeat traffic that is the expensive part.

Meanwhile the same restriction is costing you on the other side of the ledger. A dryer moving less air still burns gas and still draws power, just for longer, on every load, every hour you are open. An overheating dryer that trips its high-limit thermostat earns nothing until someone resets it — usually a customer, not staff.

Nobody is watching the machines

This is the operational reality that separates a laundromat from every other high-volume laundry. In a hotel or a hospital, a trained employee runs the department and notices when a dryer stops performing. In a self-service store, the person loading the machine has no relationship with the equipment, no reason to report a fault, and no sense of what a normal cycle time is. Lint screens go unemptied load after load, sending far more lint into the duct than the system was designed to receive.

So the venting degrades silently, and the first hard signal is a complaint or a thermal cutout — both arriving well after the restriction became significant.

Shared manifolds and the highest lint throughput there is

Vended stores run the heaviest lint load of any building type, and the venting design concentrates it. Banks of dryers commonly tie into a shared trunk or a common exhaust manifold, which is efficient and space-saving but means the trunk carries the combined output of every machine on it, at once, all day.

  • Trunk sizing versus real simultaneity. Trunks sized for partial simultaneous operation see full simultaneous operation on a Saturday. Velocity in the duct drops, lint stops staying entrained, and it deposits at offsets and branch entries.
  • Backdraft dampers. A damper that no longer seats lets a running machine push hot, moist, lint-laden air back into an idle branch and out through the neighboring dryer instead of to the termination.
  • Booster fans and interlocks. Long runs and manifolds frequently depend on a booster. If its interlock is not proving airflow before the dryers heat, or it has been wired around, the whole bank is under-exhausting.
  • Cleanout access. Well-built systems have cleanout ports along the trunk. Where they exist we use them; where they were never installed or got covered over in a remodel, that is worth reporting.
  • Make-up air. A dryer bank pulls an enormous volume of air out of the building. Without an adequate replacement-air path the room goes negative, and every machine fights that pressure on every cycle.

Cleaning a floor that stays open

Closing the store to clean the vents defeats the entire purpose, so we do not. We work to your traffic pattern — early mornings, your identified slow block — and move through the bank in sections, returning each group of machines to service as it is finished so you never lose the floor.

The trunk is the part that matters most and the part most often skipped. Cleaning individual machine connections while leaving the shared trunk loaded relocates the restriction rather than removing it, and the store is back to long dry times within weeks. We clean connection, branch, trunk and termination, brush the duct wall mechanically rather than relying on suction alone, and measure airflow afterward to confirm the result.

What you get on file

Per-machine before-and-after photos, a measured airflow reading, camera inspection where runs are long or concealed, and a plain report of defects — crushed transitions, separated joints, mesh fitted over a termination, missing cleanouts. Useful for your insurer and landlord, and for deciding which machines need attention beyond the duct. Given that FEMA attributes roughly 2,900 U.S. home clothes-dryer fires a year primarily to failure to clean, a store running this volume is not a place to guess at intervals. Work carries a 3-month workmanship warranty and a money-back guarantee, and a real technician answers the phone.

Why it matters

A clogged dryer vent is a fire waiting to happen.

Lint is highly flammable, and it builds up where you can't see it. We clean the full run, and test the airflow so you know the job is done right.
