Residential Dryer Vent Cleaning Installation

A vent installed correctly the first time is the cheapest vent you will ever own.

A vent installed correctly the first time is the cheapest vent you will ever own. Most of the repair and replacement work we do in Jacksonville traces back to an install that was done fast rather than right — so this is the service where getting the details correct pays off longest.

When you need a new install

New construction, a laundry room being relocated, a garage or addition being converted, or a stacked unit going where no dryer has been before. Each has its own constraint: new builds let us choose the route, conversions rarely do.

Designing the route

Airflow is the whole design problem. Code allows a maximum developed length, and every elbow subtracts from your budget — a 90-degree turn costs the equivalent of several feet of straight pipe, a 45 costs less. So before anything is cut we work out where the dryer sits, where the nearest sane exterior termination is, and how few turns can connect the two.

Direction matters as much as distance. A run that pitches slightly downhill toward the termination sheds condensate; one that climbs collects it, and wet lint is what builds the blockages we get called back for. Where a horizontal path would be too long or too crooked — common with interior laundry rooms — going straight up through the roof is frequently the shorter, straighter answer.

Materials and workmanship

  • Rigid galvanized pipe at the diameter the appliance specifies, for every concealed foot of the run.
  • Joints assembled with airflow — male end pointing downstream so the interior stays smooth and nothing catches lint.
  • Foil tape and collar clamps, not interior screws. A screw sticking into the airstream is a lint snag that will be there for the life of the duct.
  • A listed transition behind the dryer, kept short and left with room so the appliance can sit back without folding it.
  • A termination hood that seals when the dryer is off, with pest protection that does not choke the outlet. No screens — they clog with lint by design.

The mistakes we are hired to undo

Vents terminating in an attic, crawlspace, soffit or garage instead of outdoors. Foil accordion duct buried inside a wall. Two dryers sharing one duct. A 4" dryer necked into a 3" pipe because that was the hole that existed. Each of these is both a code violation and a fire risk, and each is genuinely common. If your install was done by someone else and you want to know which category it falls into, that is what an inspection is for.

Commissioning

We do not consider an install finished until it has been tested. Airflow gets measured at the termination with the dryer running, the hood is checked for full open and full close, joints are verified sealed, and you get photographs of the whole run before it disappears behind finished surfaces — the documentation you will want the next time anyone works on this house. Workmanship is covered by our 3-month warranty and money-back guarantee.

Common questions

Can you install before drywall goes up? That is the ideal time. Routing choices are widest and nothing has to be opened later.

How far is too far? It depends on elbow count and your dryer's rating, which is exactly why the calculation happens before installation rather than after.

Do you install for stacked and compact units? Yes, and they are less forgiving of a bad route than full-size dryers, not more.

Why it matters

A clogged dryer vent is a fire waiting to happen.

Lint is highly flammable, and it builds up where you can't see it. We clean the full run, and test the airflow so you know the job is done right.
