Residential Dryer Vent Cleaning Replacement

Replacement is the right call when the duct itself has stopped being worth saving.

Replacement is the right call when the duct itself has stopped being worth saving. That is a judgment about materials and routing, not about how dirty the vent is — and it is a judgment we would rather make with a camera and an airflow reading than with a guess.

When patching stops making sense

Four situations push a home from repair into replacement:

  • The duct is the wrong material. Vinyl and thin foil accordion duct were installed in a lot of Northeast Florida homes and are no longer code-compliant for concealed runs. They sag, tear, hold lint in every ridge, and burn. There is no repair that fixes being made of the wrong thing.
  • The damage is distributed. One separated joint is a repair. Four crushed spots, a corroded mid-section and a failed hood is a system telling you it is done.
  • Lint has hardened in place. Humidity plus years of accumulation produces a packed, cement-like lining that brushing will not clear. When a run cannot actually be cleaned, it has to be replaced.
  • The routing is the problem. A run that is far too long, climbs uphill, or turns through five elbows will re-clog no matter how well it is cleaned. Replacing it is how the underlying cause gets fixed.

What we install

New runs go in as rigid galvanized pipe at the diameter your dryer actually calls for, joints oriented so the male end points downstream with airflow, sealed with foil tape and secured at the collars — never with screws that protrude into the airstream and catch lint. We take the shortest, straightest path the structure allows and cut elbow count wherever the framing gives us a choice. Terminations get a hood that seals when the dryer is off, with a pest guard that does not restrict airflow.

Older homes and additions

Much of our replacement work is in houses where the laundry was moved or added and the vent was improvised to suit. Interior laundry rooms with no nearby exterior wall are the classic case — the original installer ran flex duct an unreasonable distance through joists to reach daylight. Replacement is the opportunity to route it properly, sometimes straight up through the roof with a dryer-jack roof vent instead of continuing to fight a horizontal run that was never going to work.

What changes afterward

A correctly sized rigid run moves dramatically more air than the duct it replaced, which is why the first thing most customers notice is cycle time. Less residual moisture also means less lint left behind to accumulate, so the system stays cleaner between visits. We hand you the before and after airflow numbers and photos of the full run before it was closed up, so there is a record of what is behind the drywall.

Timeline and disruption

Most residential replacements are a single visit. Where a run is fully concealed and access is genuinely limited, we tell you before we start what has to be opened and who patches it, because finding that out mid-job is nobody's idea of a good afternoon. Workmanship carries our 3-month warranty and money-back guarantee.

Common questions

Will you match the existing path? Only if the existing path was sound. If the routing caused the failure, replacing it in place just restarts the clock.

Is rigid duct really necessary? For concealed runs, yes — and it is what code requires. Short, visible transitions behind the dryer can use listed semi-rigid.

Can you replace just the concealed portion? Often, yes. If the accessible sections are sound rigid pipe, we replace what has failed and tie into what has not.

Why it matters

A clogged dryer vent is a fire waiting to happen.

Lint is highly flammable, and it builds up where you can't see it. We clean the full run, and test the airflow so you know the job is done right.
