Residential Dryer Vent Cleaning Tune-Up
A tune-up is for the system that works but no longer works well. Nothing is broken, nothing is blocked, and cycle times have quietly crept up. It is optimization rather than rescue.
A tune-up is for the system that works but no longer works well. Nothing is broken, nothing is blocked, and cycle times have quietly crept up. It is optimization rather than rescue.
Who this is for
Two situations, mainly. The first: you had the vent cleaned recently and drying is better but not as good as you remember. Cleaning removed the lint; it did not address whatever else is costing you airflow. The second: nothing is obviously wrong, but a dryer that used to finish in 45 minutes now takes 70, and the change came on gradually enough that you are unsure it is real. It usually is.
Where airflow leaks away without a blockage
These are the losses a standard cleaning does not touch:
- A transition duct with too much slack. Extra length coiled behind the dryer adds bends that each cost airflow. Shortening and re-seating it is minutes of work for a measurable gain.
- Joints leaking at the seams. Air escaping mid-run means less of it reaching the termination to carry lint out. Unsealed joints also deposit lint into wall cavities.
- A lazy termination hood. Louvers stiff with residue open partially instead of fully — a restriction on every cycle that looks fine at a glance.
- Interior screws. Fasteners protruding into the airstream from a past repair snag lint continuously and re-seed a clog you just paid to remove.
- A sagging section holding a low spot. A dip in a flexible run collects condensate and the damp lint that follows. Supporting it properly fixes a recurring problem permanently.
- A neglected transition at the appliance. The connection at the dryer itself accumulates independently and is often skipped.
How the visit runs
Measure first. An airflow reading at the termination establishes where you are, then we work through the run correcting each loss we find, then we measure again. The two numbers tell you what the visit bought. If the honest answer is that your system is already performing near its ceiling for its length and geometry, that is what we report — we are not going to invent a deficiency to justify the trip.
The limit a tune-up cannot beat
Some runs are simply too long or too crooked to perform well no matter how carefully they are tuned. When that is the case we will say so and quote a re-route instead, because optimizing a fundamentally bad route has a low ceiling and you should know where that ceiling is before spending more.
Why the small gains are worth having
Every restriction makes the dryer run longer and hotter than it needs to. That is energy on your bill each cycle, and heat cycling the element and thermal fuse toward failure. It also means more moisture staying in the duct, which is what turns loose lint into packed lint. Restoring airflow slows the whole process down.

Common questions
How is this different from maintenance? Maintenance is the scheduled cleaning of the run. A tune-up assumes cleaning is already done and goes after the remaining airflow losses.
Do I need this every year? No. Annual cleaning, yes. A tune-up is worth doing when performance has drifted or after work by someone else.
Will you clean too if it needs it? If the run has meaningful buildup we will tell you cleaning comes first, since tuning a clogged vent is out of order.

A clogged dryer vent is a fire waiting to happen.
Lint is highly flammable, and it builds up where you can't see it. We clean the full run, and test the airflow so you know the job is done right.
