Residential Dryer Vent Cleaning Maintenance

Maintenance is the scheduled version of this work — the visit that keeps the vent from becoming an emergency. It is the least dramatic service we offer and the one that prevents the most expensive ones.

Maintenance is the scheduled version of this work — the visit that keeps the vent from becoming an emergency. It is the least dramatic service we offer and the one that prevents the most expensive ones.

How often, honestly

Once a year suits most Jacksonville households. Twice a year is the right interval if any of these apply, and several of them apply to a lot of homes here:

  • A large household running frequent loads — volume of lint scales with volume of laundry, straightforwardly.
  • Pets that shed. Pet hair binds with lint into a denser mat than lint alone.
  • A long or elbow-heavy duct run, which traps more of what passes through it.
  • An interior laundry room with a concealed run, where you would have no early warning.

Northeast Florida's humidity is a genuine accelerant. Damp lint packs tighter and clings harder than dry lint, so an identical vent needs attention sooner here than in a dry climate.

What a maintenance visit covers

The entire run gets cleaned — from the dryer connection through to the exterior termination — with rotating brushes matched to the duct diameter and vacuum extraction at the source so lint leaves with us instead of settling in your laundry room. The transition duct behind the dryer is pulled and cleaned separately, since it is where crushing and buildup concentrate. The termination hood gets cleared and its louvers checked for full travel. Airflow is measured before and after, so improvement is a number rather than an assurance.

While we are in there we check the things that turn into next year's repair: joints starting to separate, sagging sections holding low spots, corrosion, interior screws catching lint, and whether the run is pitched the wrong way. You hear about them while they are still cheap.

What you are actually preventing

FEMA attributes roughly 2,900 clothes-dryer fires a year in U.S. homes, and failure to clean is the leading cause. That is the headline reason. The everyday reasons are that a dryer venting through a restricted duct runs longer and hotter on every cycle — wasting energy and cooking its own heating element and thermal fuse toward an early failure. Vent maintenance is substantially cheaper than the appliance repair it defers.

Signs you are overdue

Clothes needing a second cycle. A dryer hot to the touch, or a laundry room noticeably humid. A burning or scorched smell. Lint appearing around the door seal. A termination hood that no longer flutters open when the dryer runs. Any one of these means do not wait for the anniversary.

Records

Every visit produces before and after photos and airflow readings. Over a few years that becomes a genuine service history — useful for tracking whether your interval is right, and useful at resale. Workmanship carries our 3-month warranty and money-back guarantee.

Common questions

I clean the lint trap every load. Is that enough? No. The trap catches a fraction; the rest travels into the duct, which is the part that clogs and the part that catches fire.

Do you service condos and townhomes? Yes. Shared-wall construction usually means longer concealed runs, which makes routine maintenance more important rather than less.

Can I be reminded? Ask and we will note your interval and follow up when it comes due.

What can I do between professional cleanings?

Clean the lint screen after every load, keep the space behind the dryer clear, and glance at the exterior hood while the dryer runs to make sure the flap opens. These habits help, but they don't replace a full cleaning.

  • Wash the lint screen in warm, soapy water now and then if dryer sheets leave a film that water beads up on.
  • Don't leave the dryer running while nobody is home or while everyone is asleep.
  • Leave room behind the dryer so the transition duct isn't squashed against the wall.
  • Keep laundry, boxes and cleaning supplies from piling up around the machine.

Does a new dryer still need its vent maintained?

It does. A new dryer on an old duct inherits whatever lint, sags and crushed sections are already in the run. Cleaning and checking the vent at install gives the new machine a clear path from the first load.

It's also the right time to make sure the transition duct is the right material and length for where the new dryer will sit.

What if the airflow reading doesn't improve after cleaning?

That usually points to a problem cleaning can't fix, such as a crushed section, a separated joint, or a run that is too long or has too many bends. We show you the reading and explain the options.

A camera inspection can show where in the run the restriction sits. Depending on what it finds, the fix may be replacing a damaged section or re-routing the dryer vent pipe, and you decide which way to go.

Why it matters

A clogged dryer vent is a fire waiting to happen.

Lint is highly flammable, and it builds up where you can't see it. We clean the full run, and test the airflow so you know the job is done right.
